This page contains important information about COVID-19 and is applicable to TAFE Queensland staff, students and stakeholders.

TAFE Queensland has been continuing to implement a range of proactive measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 and to support our students in continuing their study. At the same time, we are continually evaluating our approaches to workplace health, safety and wellbeing issues for our staff and students based on advice provided by Queensland Health.

We recognise that TAFE Queensland needs to continue to provide high quality educational experiences for our students in this challenging environment.  It is critical we support our teachers at this time as they continue transitioning to alternative delivery modes including flexible, distance and online learning where possible.

To this end, TAFE Queensland will pause all training and educational delivery from Monday 30th March and recommence training after the Easter break. There will be some exceptions for critical skills areas and teachers will work directly with their students to ensure progression and completion during this time.

TAFE Queensland will continue to maintain our wide range of student support services.

TAFE Queensland’s priority as always remains the wellbeing of its staff and students and ensuring our students acquire the critical skills that Queenslanders will need now and into the future.

BORDER CONTROL MEASURES

NON-ESSENTIAL STATIC GATHERINGS

We will continue to review events in light of the advice from the Queensland Government.

You should continue to attend the placement.  If for some reason you are unable to continue your vocational placement, or because of COVID-19 restrictions, please let your teacher know.

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, you need to follow the instructions of your general practitioner (GP) and/or Queensland Health.  While you have COVID-19 you are not able to attend face-to-face learning on campus—please stay in care.

In the event there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 on campus and we are made aware, we will inform you.

In the instance there is a confirmed case on campus, we will work with Queensland Health to perform contact tracing (contacts who have been within 2 metres for 2 hours or more would be traced) and undertake cleaning of the site.

In the event there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 on campus, your campus may close for a short time. In some cases, we may determine that a campus needs to stay closed for longer, on advice by Queensland Health or to conduct extensive cleaning. In this either case, we will notify you.

If your campus closes, you won’t be disadvantaged.  If closed for a short period of time, or if closed for longer, we have plans in place so that you won’t fall behind in your studies.

Yes.  We have counselling services.  Our counselling services are available at select campuses. Counselling sessions are free and completely confidential. Whether you want an unbiased opinion or just need someone to talk to, our experienced and friendly counsellors are here for you. They are available face-to-face, by phone, and via video conference. You can book an appointment by visiting the student support services section on our website.

TAFE Queensland will continue to provide students with a range of services.  The computer facilities are available in all of our libraries.    Students should practise physical distancing while on campus.    Online library support is available.

TAFE Queensland has:

  • Increased cleaning on campuses
  • Restricted travel to high risk areas
  • Has put plans into place if campuses do need to close

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

There is some flexibility on attendance requirements if a student is impacted by COVID-19.

Keep TAFE Queensland informed if you are unable to attend class by emailing Admin.TQI@tafe.qld.edu.au

FOR EMPLOYERS

Unless you are contacted directly by a TAFE Queensland region, your apprentice's or trainee’s training has been postponed. We will be in contact with you over the coming weeks to reschedule that training at a later date.

During the pause, we will be working with a number of employers who have been impacted.  Our customer service team will be in contact with you as soon as possible to reschedule.

The Australian Government has made a $1.3 billion commitment to support approximately 120,000 apprentices as part of an economic stimulus package. For further information on how to apply for the subsidy, including information on eligibility, contact your Australian Apprenticeship Support Network provider.

FOR SCHOOLS

With the timing of the pause aligned to the school Term 1 break, we hope it will not be too disruptive.  Our TAFE at School coordinators will be in contact to discuss this with you.

FOR TAFE QUEENSLAND'S THIRD-PARTIES

Only critical skills area training can continue during the training pause.  A TAFE Queensland representative will be in contact with you to discuss your individual arrangement.
