English language courses
English is fast becoming the global language and what better way to learn than enrolling in one of TAFE Queensland's English language courses (ELICOS) for overseas students. You will gain the English skills required for most of TAFE Queensland's Certificate and Diploma courses.
TAFE Queensland English language courses help you become more confident in spoken and written English. The courses provide placement assessment upon your arrival, exam preparation and academic support. Our English language teachers are fully qualified and offer students individual assistance.

General English
General English classes focus on developing your listening, speaking, reading and writing, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary skills. General English programs are available from beginner to upper-intermediate levels, with programs starting at various times of the year and running for one to 60 weeks.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) prepares you for further study in Australian tertiary institutions at TAFE diploma or university degree level.
The course ranges from upper-intermediate to advanced levels and classes are skill-focused. Activities include:

discussion and oral presentations

library and internet research skills

academic reading and writing
-
developing vocabulary.
You can use English for Academic Purposes courses to prepare for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination.
English for Academic Purposes courses are offered regularly by selected institutes and run for 5 to 20 weeks.
Business English
The Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) program is for students who wish to enhance their career prospects in the increasingly competitive global employment market by gaining an internationally recognised business English qualification. It is also for students who wish to study in a business-related field at TAFE or university.
Students who successfully complete the BEC program meet the English requirement for TAFE Queensland courses. Subjects may include academic reading and writing, listening to lectures, note taking, speaking in an academic context and research skills.
The BEC program runs for 12 weeks and is offered by many TAFE Queensland institutes.
