Make a difference in people’s lives with an exciting career in the fitness industry. Learn the science of exercise, proper use and maintenance of exercise equipment, and how to develop and roll out fitness programs for the general population as well as people with special health requirements. You’ll study anatomy, physiology, exercise science, nutrition, and how to perform health and fitness screening and fitness appraisals. You’ll also gain generic work skills such as communication, client service, risk analysis, and sports first aid. Entry requirements

  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Courses may require different resources, depending on your study location;

TAFE Queensland | Gold Coast

  • Appropriate dress is required for fitness sessions including enclosed shoes.
  • Students will need to have access to transport to enable them to attend vocational placement and practical components of the course. Students may need to travel as far as Hope Island and Coolangatta to attend gym and recreation sessions.
  • The cost of the required textbook is included in the fees - 'The Essential Guide to Fitness: For the Fitness Instructor', (3rd edition) by Rosemary Marchese published by Cengage Learning ISBN: 978-01703546251

Support Services: TAFE Queensland Gold Coast undertakes a duty of care towards students and offers student support services.

Timetable

TAFE Queensland | Gold Coast

This course is delivered over 10 weeks face-to-face at Southport and at fitness and recreation venues throughout the Gold Coast.

Classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.00am-4.00pm at Southport with the first class on Level 4, Room 404. (Class times are subject to change.) 

Students need to be prepared to spend 8-10 hours per week at home for additional study.

TAFE Queensland | Brisbane

Timetables may be available online or may be provided to you at your program orientation.

Your timetable may change every semester and you must be able to manage your commitments to ensure attendance at all your classes.

Timetables will be different across TAFE Queensland locations. This is an example of what a course timetable could look like -  

Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Or

Wednesday and Thursday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Friday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm

Placement

Some qualifications require students to participate in vocational placement to successfully complete and achieve their TAFE Queensland award. If vocational placement is a course requirement it will be organised by your School/Faculty and you will be provided with all the information you need to prepare. Remember you are responsible for ensuring you have met all the requirements to participate in vocational placement.

During these placements, you may become familiar with information that is confidential to that workplace (for example financial or business affairs, personal affairs and family background of staff and clients, technical information, trade secrets, know-how, formulae, processes, ideas, and inventions). You must not divulge any confidential information that you become aware of during a placement. Breaches of confidentiality will be considered to be acts of behavioural misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited!
Before you apply, make sure that you check that you meet the specific academic and language requirements for your chosen course.

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place letter. To accept it and secure your place in your chosen program, you will need to:

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Please note that International Orientation day is compulsory. Students must attend the International Orientation Day before commencing their studies with TAFE Queensland.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation which is usually conducted the week before study commences will help answer many of your questions about studying with TAFE Queensland. This comprehensive orientation covers many important topics including

  • Living in Queensland and understanding our Australian culture

  • Accommodation

  • Banking

  • Transport

  • Student safety

  • Learning support

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), insurance and medical needs

  • Student Support Services at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
