The Diploma of Business is for those wishing to gain knowledge and expertise in key business strategies including people management, finance, project and business systems. This program is targeted toward those who are aiming to gain high levels of supervisory, decision-making and problem solving skills; who want to work independently and responsibly to achieve organisation outcomes. By studying this course, you will develop an understanding of the dynamics and principles underlying the effective functioning of business operations.

This qualification provides a pathway towards a Bachelor of Business at James Cook, Central Queensland and other universities.  Under certain conditions you may be granted up to 12 credit points.

Delivery may include lectures, practical sessions, observations and vocational placement. You may be required to attend evening classes and/or weekend activities. You must abide by industry and/or TAFE Queensland North dress standards.

Entry requirements

International Student specific entry requirements:
English: For students whose first language is not English, the required minimum English language levels is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, with no individual score less than 5.0 or equivalent assessment.

Academic: The minimum requirements can be one of the following:

  • Certificate II or III – 10 years of schooling (or equivalent)
  • Certificate IV or Diploma – 12 years of schooling (or equivalent)
  • Mature –aged entry with work experience in a related field

Please send certified and translated copies of your English results and academic certificates to the International Student Unit together with your completed and signed application form.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Compulsory Orientation
All students must participate in compulsory International orientation on the Friday before classes commence.
