Our direction
As a result of the Queensland Skills Plan, launched in March 2006, changes were made to TAFE Queensland. These included:
-
new and improved facilities with better information technology systems
-
nationally recognised and accredited qualifications including higher levels of qualifications and more TAFE pathways to university
-
A new entity called Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE, which operates from the existing Logan, Yeronga and Moreton TAFE Institutes' campuses was formed
-
Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, now incorporates TAFE Open Learning
-
Southbank Institute of TAFE was renamed to Southbank Institute of Technology and became a statutory TAFE institute in April 2008
-
A new entity SkillsTech Australia came into operation to manage the trades training programs, staff and students from Logan and Brisbane (including Moreton, Yeronga and Eagle Farm).
-
On 1 April 2008, Southbank Institute of Technology was established as Queensland's first statutory institute in the TAFE network.
-
On 1 July 2008, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE was also established as a statutory TAFE institute.
TAFE Queensland Governance Model Consultation Paper
The Department of Education and Training has released a consultation paper on the governance model for the Queensland TAFE system for the future on 4 August 2008.
The consultation period closed on 1 September 2008.
An outcomes report has been prepared in response to the consultation paper feedback. The report documnets the areas identified for consideration, provides a discussion of the concerns, and outlines recommendations for a resolution and next steps for implementation.
The consultation paper and outcomes report are available at www.training.qld.gov.au/skillsplan/index.html
